Ager's Scepter Exotic Trace Rifle - Destiny 2
Unlock the Ager's Scepter Exotic Trace Rifle in Destiny 2 by completing a new quest, A Hollow Coronation.
Ager’s Scepter is a new Exotic Trace Rifle in Destiny 2, added during the Season of the Lost. As a Stasis Trace Rifle, this is the first of its kind and worth picking up. In order to unlock Ager's Scepter, players will need to complete the quest, A Hollow Coronation.
How to get Ager’s Scepter
Before you can unlock Ager’s Scepter, you must complete the Tracing the Stars questline. Once the first three lots of Atlas Skews are collected, you can pick up the quest, A Hollow Coronation, from the Wayfinder’s Compass in the H.E.L.M.
A Hollow Coronation
The quest to get Ager’s Scepter is called A Hollow Coronation. This will take players once more to the Dreaming City to aid Queen Mara Sov.
Step 1: Speak with Mara Sov
Go through the portal in the H.E.L.M. and chat with Mara Sov.
Step 2: Collect Atlas Skews in the Confluence
You will now need to collect more Atlas Skews in the Dreaming City. These ones are located in the Confluence, an underground network of passageways and portals in the Dreaming City.
To access the passageways, start at Divalian Mists and head towards the Spine of Keres (where the orrery is) to the north of the area. You can do this by going straight from the Divalian Mists fast travel point, taking a left through the crystal cave, and jumping over the gaps.
Go onto the bridge that connects to the orrery building, but instead of going across, drop off the right-hand side onto a lower ledge. Follow the path around into a cave and go through the portal – you will now be in the Confluence tunnels.
Confluence Giant Crystal
By following the above directions, the first Atlas Skew you find will be by the Giant Crystal. Walk through the hallways until you see the crystal, the skew is on the other side.
Confluence Tree Triad
If you follow the path into the Confluence laid out above, and continue to the central area with three paths leading off, this Atlas Skew is to the right. You will find it beside a big tree.
Garden Entry Statue
Continue to go down the right-hand tunnel in the Confluence and you will cross into a new loading zone for the Garden of Esila. In the next room will be an Atlas Skew. Once you grab it, turn around and go back to the main room.
Confluence Throne Portal
Go through the path in the center of the room and cross a large open circular area (this is below the Blind Well). Go to the far side to spot the Atlas Skew. This used to be how you would access the Shattered Throne dungeon. Head back to the central area once you’ve collected the skew.
Harbinger Cathedral
The final Atlas Skew is to the left of the main area, down the path that leads to the Harbinger’s Seclude. You’ll spot the skew in front of a statue.
Step 3: Launch A Hollow Coronation
You must now place the Atlas Skews by launching the mission, A Hollow Coronation. This is accessed via the H.E.L.M.
Step 4: Enter the Caliburn Gatehouse
After placing the Atlas Skews, the portal in the center of the room will activate. Pass through it to enter the Caliburn Gatehouse. You will need to interact with the Scepter that’s on the table – but you won’t be able to take it just yet.
Step 5: Return to Mara Sov
Go back to the H.E.LM. and through the portal to speak with Mara Sov.
Step 6: Parallax Trajectory and Rifle final blows
This step requires you to collect 100 Parallax Trajectory and defeat enemies using rifle-class weapons while playing Astral Alignment. Load up Astral Alignment, equip an Auto Rifle, Scout Rifle, Pulse Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Trace Rifle, Fusion Rifle or Linear Fusion Rifle and start killing enemies. If it’s got “rifle” in the name, you’re good to go. You may need to play three or more rounds of Astral Alignment to clear this step.
Step 7: Champions and Super kills
Stay in Astral Alignment because you will now need to get 18 Champion kills and 20 defeats with your Super. Thankfully, you do not have to get the killing blow on the Champions, but do try to at least get a hit on them.
Step 8: Collect Strands of Nobility from strikes
Collecting Strands of Nobility from three specific Strikes is the next step. Complete the following strikes:
- Lake of Shadows (EDZ)
- The Disgraced (Cosmodrome)
- The Glassway (Europa)
Step 9: Speak with Mara Sov
With all that out of the way, go back to the H.E.L.M. and speak with Queen Mara Sov. Take the Noble Seal and get ready for the next step.
Step 10: Unlock Ager’s Scepter
You can now launch the mission, A Hollow Coronation, from the map of the H.E.L.M. and collect Ager’s Scepter from its bubble.
Step 11: Defeat Kelgorath, Risen from Bones
After grabbing Ager’s Scepter, go ahead and equip it and then use it to destroy the rocks on the side of the wall. They are a slightly different color and flicker purple. Clear a path through the corridor into the next room. In here you will fight Kelgorath, Risen from Bones, and a bunch of other Hive enemies. Defeat them all and return to the queen.
Step 12: Speak with Queen Mara Sov
Go back to the HELM and through the portal and talk with Queen Mara Sov. After the cinematic, you must speak with her again.
Ager’s Scepter perks
Now, let’s take a look at the perks on Ager’s Scepter and whether or not this is a Trace Rifle you will want to use in end-game content.
- Rega’s Refrain – Stasis final blows transfer ammo to this weapon’s magazine from reserves.
- Ager’s Call – Final blows with this weapon generate a slowing burst around the defeated target.
Ager’s Scepter excels at spreading the effects of Stasis around an area. Every enemy you defeat with this will detonate, leaving being a slowing field that can freeze enemies. Furthermore, because this is a Stasis weapon, final blows with it will refill its magazine from reserves.
Whether this will become a hot item to use remains to be seen. If you’re going to be using a Trace Rifle, you’re likely going to opt for Divinity for that extra damage or Coldheart for the memes. Even with the Ager’s Scepter catalyst, it doesn’t seem like one you’re going to use unless you’re trying to get those Trivial Mysteries in the Shattered Realm.
Unlocking the Ager’s Scepter Exotic Trace Rifle is going to take a little bit of work. Those that haven’t been playing each week will find there their path to unlocking it will feel a bit longer, as the Tracing the Stars Part 3 must be completed before A Hollow Coronation (the Exotic version) is available.
